Review of Lost Cities

Posted by Darleya

Lost Cities is a two-player board came by Kosmos, a German publisher, and the makers of Balloon Cup.

This little game is a great couples game or would also be fun between a parent and child(10 and up), or even between friends. The game consists of cards, and a small board. Like Balloon Cup, the rules are very easy to understand, but it’s a good competitive game.

The game only lasts about 30 minutes or less, so it doesn’t take up a whole lot of your time, if you aren’t available for hours. My husband and I typically play for three rounds to get an overall winner.

The gameplay is simple: you have cards in your hand, they are numbered from 1 to 10, in colors blue, green, yellow, red, or white and you have to play them down on the board in chronological order in their respective color columns. It sounds very basic, but the trick is to get as many high scoring cards down in the right colors that you think you’ll be able to finish before the card piles runs out. The game stops when the draw pile runs out, so you have to be strategic. It’s a little bit more complicated than I just wrote, but that’s the basic premise with additional rules when it comes to scoring. Additional rules can be found at Board Game Geek.

I really enjoy playing this game, it’s relaxing and fun. Have you ever had those nights where you and your siginificant other may be bored and not know what dto do? Play a two-player board game such as Lost Cities, or Balloon Cup- or both! We do, and always have loads of fun. You may get frustrated if you keep losing though, as I do, although the other night I won the three rounds. It was wonderful.

Enjoy!
