Review of Bomb in a Birdcage, A Fine Frenzy
A Fine Frenzy’s second album, Bomb in a Birdcage has finally been added to my collection. Well, it’s been a couple of months now, but I’m finally reviewing it.
My very first impression of the album was of mild disappointment. I’ll tell you why. The album is a lot more ‘folky’ for the lack of a better term. What I consider to be folk music is a ballad with a lot of guitar and/or banjo.
That being said, after I listened to it two or three times, it grew on me and I absolutely love listening to it. I find myself singing along and not noticing traffic on my way to and from work. I hate that I was inappropriately disappointed at the start, but I had to mention it. I don’t think I was fully paying attention to it the first time I listened.
Once again, the very talented Alyson Sudol keeps with happier tones, and is very pleasing to listen to. She does some really fun things with her voice in ‘Electric Twist’ and I absolutely love the ‘Swan Song’ and wish I knew what she regrets saying, and to whom.
I think she’s more comfortable with her voice or something in this album because you can hear the confidence. She goes for it, and good for her! I also love her style, her outfits in the album cover are really cute, and I’d totally wear them.
This album is shorter than One Cell in the Sea (which is still my favourite by A Fine Frenzy), but A Bomb in Birdcage is definitely one to add to your collection.
