Chef Bombay – Beef Vindaloo
I was at Walmart the other day and saw a new microwave dinner that I decided to try. It was a Beef Vindaloo, by Chef Bombay.
Normally I try to stay away from most microwave dinners, just because of all the added sodium, but, this one wasn’t too bad for sodium content.
The package says it’s medium spicy, so that sounded good. I’ve recently been addicted to the Beef Vindaloo from Moxies Restaurant, so, I gave this a try.
The meal is separated in two sides, one half is the basmati rice, and the other is the beef and sauce mix.
The cook time is 8 minutes.
The first thing I noticed was that the beef chunks are fairly large. When it was ready I mixed some of the basmati rice into the sauce meat half, and let it cool down. The sauce flavour is decent. It had a nice spice to it. There wasn’t nearly as much flavour as the Moxies version, but, it’s to be expected of a microwave dinner.
The beef.
The beef was way too tough. I couldn’t break it with my fork, which was a first indicator, and then I couldn’t chew it very well. A big turn off. Stringy chewy beef is not my thing. I ended up just eating the rice and sauce, and leaving most of the meat. I’m not too impressed with it and won’t buy it again. I may try another Chef Bombay dinner, but not a beef one that’s for sure.
Unless you enjoy tough meat, don’t buy this for your lunch.
