Ticket to Ride
Ticket to Ride by Days of Wonder is an excellent game for everyone in your family to play. (2 to 5 players, ages 8 and up)
This game has the perfect balance between strategy and luck. It’s not a complicated game, so even those who are reluctant to play board games will enjoy this one.
The game board is a map of North America (minus Mexico), where there are drawn on train tracks all over.
Everyone chooses a train color and gets assigned routes that they have to lay tracks on throughout the game. What makes this game simple is that you can only do 1 of three things on your turn. Pick up cards, lay down tracks, or pick a new route.
It gets very competitive because you can see where people are laying down their carts and can then figure out what their routes are; you can then strategically block them, or worry when they block you!
The game ends when someone finishes all their carts. The person who wins has the most points(after having successfully completed all their routes, or having the longest route, or even the most 6-track settings).
I have played this game countless times, and have yet to get tired of it. Everyone I’ve played with has also enjoyed the game. It’s a new classic for anyone’s game collection.
There is also Ticket to Ride Europe, which we also have, and works the same way as the original.
Oh and when you’re waiting for your turn, it’s fun to make little designs with your trains.
