Fraser Café, a seasonal kitchen
I went to Fraser Café here in Ottawa a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time. Simon and Ross Fraser are the chefs and owners of this place. They are currently changing locations, but I will describe my experience at the first location. It was a small little place, very quaint. What was really neat about the whole experience is that you can watch the chefs in action. The seating area is right up against the kitchen. It is only the two chefs that are cooking, they’re so quick and amazing.
Fraser Café promotes the use of local ingredients, and they consistently change their menu accordingly. My favourite part about eating there, was the surprise items on their menu. For either your appetizer or your main, you could choose the option to have the kitchen’s choice. This is what I did, because I love food and am willing to try anything.
So I selected the kitchen’s choice for both my appetizer and my main. Some of my family did the same. The surprises were ALL different! No one had the same surprise, it was amazing. I have no idea how they made so many different meals so quickly, because we were not the only ones at the restaurant by far.
The food was exquisite. Gourmet flavours at very reasonable prices. I enjoyed every bite.Everyone at my table devoured their meals. These young men are clearly in their domain. I’ll be returning very soon.
Since they have changed locations, I’m anxious to see how they decorate the new place, and whether the kitchen will still be exposed. Their website has their menus, but keep in mind that they always change it, and PLEASE, order yourself the kitchen’s choice! You can tell them to have a surprise vegetarian meal, or a surprise non-vegetarian meal.
