My review of BattleStar Gallactica (2004)
First of all, I am terribly sad that this show has ended. What most people don’t realize is that it’s much more of a drama or a tragedy, than just Science Fiction. (Not that there’s anything wrong with science fiction)
The characters are incredibly well developed and very relateable.
Edward James Olmos never fails to amaze me with his amazing display of raw emotions. The man can cry.
Tricia Helfer outshines her beauty with her acting skills. Katee Sackhoff, and Grace park, both very different characters, yet equally good. Michael Hogan. Even with that eye patch – still doable, something about his cynical behaviour on the show.
What I appreciate about this show is that they make it seem realistic. Yes, we’ve all seen how robots and artificial intelligence has taken over the world in countless films, but, in Battlestar, it’s not so much about that anymore; it’s the survival of the human race. They go through immense challenges; challenges that any new society would face. People and factions joining as one, but not without cracks and hypocrisy.
The fear. The hope. The new begginings. Full of action, yet full of art. (I cried often.)
What I hate is that some people, who are afraid of being ‘geeky’ and admitting to watching anything remotely science fiction, automatically dismiss great shows like Battlestar. Give this a try! You will never look back. Buy the DVDs, heck download the full show!
Frakkin’ Awesome. I miss it.
